On 27 April 2018, the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) jointly conducted a briefing on the eighth session of the Meeting of the Parties to the Convention on the Protection and Use of Transboundary Watercourses and International Lakes (Water Convention).

The eighth session of the Meeting of the Parties to the Water Convention, scheduled for October 10-12, 2018, will be an international high-level event, bringing together more than 400 representatives of national ministries and agencies responsible for water resources, international cooperation and development, as well as joint bodies, international and non-governmental organizations and academia from all regions of the world. This will be an important event in the evolution of the Convention as it is the first Meeting of the Parties to be held in Asia and with the participation of the first Parties from Africa. The briefing presented to the permanent mission in Geneva and other participants of the Meeting of the Parties the topics for discussion, the main results to be expected, and the decisions to be taken.
